Stags are spending but hens are not
Women are cutting back on hen party spending but men are still splashing out on pre-wedding stag trips, it was revealed today.
As many as 74% of men say their stag parties will last for a weekend or longer, while 59% of hen parties will go on for only a day, a survey by Hotels.com and Wedding Ideas magazine found.
While stags are spending £179 on average for each party, hens are only forking out £118 on average.
Men are also more likely than women to venture beyond Britain for pre-wedding parties, with a third of stag dos being held abroad, including 5% in the USA or Canada.
In contrast, just 4% of hen parties are overseas, with 28% of brides not venturing further than their home town for a pre-wedding event.
London is the top venue for both stag and hen parties, with Prague, Amsterdam and Brighton the next most popular destinations for stags and Brighton, and Edinburgh and Devon/Cornwall the next most favoured for hens.
Hotels.com communications director Alison Couper said: “Traditionally the wedding day is all about the bride, so it would seem that many grooms use their stag do as an opportunity to share the limelight ahead of the big day.”
